I strive to be present, to offer a nonjudgmental and understanding atmosphere. My approach is humanistic, with a foundation in Existential Therapy, and I integrate a variety of therapeutic approaches to help individuals discover their own positive potential, cope more effectively and perceive meaning and purpose for new freedom. Some of my techniques include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness and Motivational Enhancement. Motivational Enhancement Therapy empowers an individual to change by increasing their intrinsic motivation through the development of awareness. This approach works from the premise that everything we need is already within us.
My experience lies in working with individuals with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma and PTSD, loss, identity issues, LGBTQ concerns, substance use issues and some personality disorders. As a Licensed professional counselor, I am trained to work with individuals and couples in treating mental, behavioral, and emotional problems and disorders. I am also a National Certified Counselor, meeting the highest standards of education, supervision, experience, and ethics.
Psychologist Carl Rogers, one of the founders of the humanistic approach, described a kind of listening that I seek each day: “We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know.”
