The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.

Melissa Noll-Carter, LPC
ounseling is a personal, individual experience. Each person comes to therapy with their own set of experiences and goals in mind. Through the therapeutic relationship, we can develop new awareness, realization and the changes that empower. Therapy may not always look the same, but I believe each of us seeks to become authentic - with ourselves, the people in our lives, the questions and meanings and purposes in our lives.

My work draws on a variety of therapeutic approaches to discuss, guide and empower decision-making capabilities. I believe therapy is most effective as a collaborative partnership. I hold certifications in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), the latter specializing in children (2-18) with a trauma diagnosis. I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), which is for any individual impacted by trauma.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy can increase quality of life by teaching us reliable approaches for emotional balance, mindfulness, desensitization toward stress and growth in interpersonal communications. DBT is not only helpful for rediscovering purpose, but for addressing depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), eating disorders and substance dependence.

Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an evidence-based model specializing in assisting children and adolescents who have been impacted by traumatic events, and can provide new resources for negative behavior and emotional patterns. TF-CBT also supports caregivers seeking to help those who are experiencing shame, distrust, depression and anxiety.

Over the last decade I have had the pleasure of counseling adults and children of all ages who have been impacted by a variety of challenges or mental health diagnoses. I agree with Carl Jung in that we are not what happens to us, but what we choose to become.
